History:
Romvag was established in 1973 in Caracal, and it was one of the largest worldwide exporters of freight wagons, focused mainly on the former East Europe market. The factory employed 5,000 workers organized in three shifts producing at its peak 5,500 units per year. From 1973, when it began to manufacture, Romvag S.A. sold over 70.000 new wagons, out of which 50,000 were exported in ex-Soviet Union, France, Czech Republic, Republic of Slovakia, Hungary, and so on. Romvag was for several years one of the biggest world wide exporters of freight wagons. Romvag’s traditional USSR and east European market collapsed on political grounds in 1990 so Romvag focused on its main client SNTFM CFR Marfa and tried to diversify its production with modernization of railcars and capital and periodic repairs. In 2003 Romvag was privatized, the majority package was acquired by KEG Germany. In 2004 Romvag was taken over by International Railway Systems. In 2007, Romvag posted a Euro 70,71 M turnover and Euro 108,72 M turnover estimates for 2008.

Products:
With a capacity of over 1,800 wagons per year, the company manufactures a wide range of freight wagons in different gauges, starting with general use cars for transport of bulk goods like coal, sand, gravel, wood, up to specialized cars like containers, self discharging wagons for bulk cereals, grain, wagons for transport of coils of laminated steel, tank wagons, wagons for the transport of saw dust, palettizated goods, special wagons for transport of hot agglomerate up to 700 degree Celsius. Romvag also produces parts and underframes for its clients other wagon producing companies.

Facilities:
Romvag has up to date technical equipment for cutting, welding, preparation and protection. Romvag acquired technology and know how for aluminum railcar constructions. Romvag has a strong design department.

Certifications:
Romvag is certified by the relevant Romanian authorities, being authorized by AFER as a Certified Railway Purveyor. Additionally Romvag has implemented a system for quality assurance in accordance with DIN EN ISO 9001 certificates issued by TUV SudDeutschland.

At this moment Romvag S.A. cooperates with prestigious companies of Europe such as: AAE, DB, GE Equipment Services, Serbian Railways and TOUAX.
